SM River Group
The SM River Group of companies was founded by Raj Kulasingam to advise and invest in people and opportunities that comes across his desk from all corners of the world. Raj was born in Kelapa Bali palm oil/rubber estate just outside Slim River 100km north of Kuala Lumpur the capital city of Malaysia. Kuala Lumpur is better known as KL and is where Raj spent his formative years until he came to the UK to pursue his University education.
Raj is currently Senior Counsel at Dentons (aka the largest law firm in the world) which has more than 10,000 employees in 80 countries and 180 cities. His 30+ year legal career has covered a wide range of transactions in various sectors including financial services, private equity, venture capital, real estate, energy, renewables, oil and gas, road, rail, water, waste and other infrastructure. He has advised on transactions in the UK, Europe, Africa, Asia and the Middle East. He works with Dentons teams and offices across the globe in originating, structuring and advising on transactions in numerous sectors and geographies.
Outside of his role at Dentons, Raj is an experienced investor and has been investing in start-ups and companies since 2000. He backs great founders and teams who are solving important issues in markets in UK, Europe, Africa, US, and ASEAN
500 Startups recently awarded Raj Angel Investor of the Year 2021.
